Edge: Over the past decade, many of Square Enixs best-known designers have left the company and none more high profile than Hironobu Sakaguchi. He joined Square in 1983 as a part-time designer, going on to become its director of planning and development, and ultimately its US president. Yoshinori Kitase, one of Sakaguchis protégées, is among the few remaining staff from the glory days when the company established and expanded the Japanese RPG blueprint. Hes worked on titles such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7 and Squares high-profile collaboration with Disney, Kingdom Hearts. Today, he pilots the Final Fantasy brand Sakaguchis creation and a series that has sold more than 100 million units to date and is Producing the much awaited remake of Final Fantasy 7. Its one of the most senior creative positions in games, but holding it was never Kitases goal.

Square Enixs Cloud Streaming Service To Quietly End Next Month

Last year, Square Enix launched their Dive In streaming service in Japan, which is similar to Gaikai or OnLive, and brought games like Final Fantasy XIII to tablets and smartphones. Gamer reports that the service will end next month. To give you a little more detail on the Dive In streaming service, all of their games were rentals with prices as low as 150 yen plus tax to access games like Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders, or Final Fantasy VII International for three days at 200 yen. After a delay from its original launch date on October 9, 2014 in Japan, the Dive In service officially launched in December 3rd of last year, without any word on whether it would make it outside of Japan.

For the first time in franchise history, Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy XV simultaneous around the globe. "Up until now in previous Final Fantasies, we've never attempted a complete global worldwide release with them," game director Hajime Tabata told IGN.
